Prior to the availability of SeaTools, many of the hard drives returned to Seagate were found to have no problems. Additionally, removing your drive will reduce your productivity until it is replaced. It is important that you not risk losing all your data by returning a perfectly good disk drive. If it passes all tests, then the problem is usually located somewhere else in your system. Click on “Verify Disk” and if Disk Utility says it’s needed, then run “Repair Disk”.SeaTools thoroughly tests your Seagate, Maxtor-brand, and Quantum-brand ATA drives. ![]() When done correctly, the partition will be highlighted in blue (may vary at some point). Power management controls may need to be suspended while doing very long tests. If the Dashboard diagnostic test produces a ‘fail’ result, we recommend you test the hard drive with the SeaTools diagnostic program before pursuing a replacement of the hard drive.ġ.) It is suggested to close all other applications before running hard disk diagnostic, in order to keep the drive focused on SeaTools as much as possible.Ģ.) Please keep the computer fully powered on. A pass or fail message from Seagate Dashboard could simply indicate other issues which do not warrant a hard drive replacement.
